Elaine Jensen volunteered with the American Red Cross for 38 years. A member of the Lakeshore Chapter Board of Directors from 1960 to 1987, Mrs. Jensen was the Chapter’s first Chairman. She also held positions as Secretary and Vice-Chairman.
In 1978, Mrs. Jensen was elected to the National Board of Governors. During her two-term tenure on the National Board from 1978 to 1984, she served on the Subcommittee on Planning, the National Nominating Committee, and the International Committee, representing the American Red Cross at international conferences in Mexico City and Geneva, Switzerland.
Following her service on the National Board, Mrs. Jensen continued serving in a leadership role for the Midwestern Area as Chairman of Volunteers and as a member of the Advisory Council. She received the Clara Barton Award for meritorious volunteer leadership.
A lifelong resident of Racine, Mrs. Jensen was a member of the Pioneer Savings and Loan Association Board of Directors. She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1940 and was inducted into the School’s Hall of Fame in 1987.
To celebrate the leadership legacy of Elaine Schubert Jensen, a Red Cross volunteer in Racine for nearly 40 years, the endowment fund was established in 2006. Resources will be used to sustain and enhance future generations of Red Cross supporters.
