Who's Your Local Hero? Nominate Them For A 'Brave Heart' Award PDF Print E-mail

Red Cross Seeking 'Heroes Among Us' for recognition at annual 'Brave Hearts' Recognition Event

The holidays present a natural opportunity for us to reflect on the year and give thanks for blessings received and the people that have had a significant impact on our lives. As you do, if you know a local hero whose achievements deserve to be recognized, American Red Cross wants to hear from you.

Each year, Red Cross holds Brave Hearts: Heroes Among Us, an event at which the life-saving accomplishments of everyday heroes who have helped to keep our community safe are honored. In recent years Brave Hearts has honored quick-thinking life savers, philanthropic organizations, fearless firefighters and police officers, military heroes and many more.

In order for a hero to be recognized, they must be nominated. Visit redcrossinsewis.org/cake/bravehearts to complete a nomination online or you may download a printable form, complete it, and email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Nominations must be submitted by December 31st, 2011. Award recipients will be chosen in January and if the person or organization nominated is chosen by our judges, they will be contacted.

To nominate a hero the following requirements need to be met:

  • The heroic act must have occurred between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011.
  • The act of courage can be ongoing or have occurred at one particular time.
  • Either the nominee must be from, or the heroic act of courage must have occurred in one of the following counties: Dodge, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth or Waukesha.
  • If someone is nominated by a family member, an additional nomination from a person other than a family member is required.

Nominees selected for recognition will be recognized at the annual Red Cross Brave Hearts event on April 5, 2012.
