Purpose

To train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross Babysitter's Training course.  This course prepares instructor candidates to use course materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of participants in a basic-level course.

Prerequisites

  • Be at least 16 years of age on or before the last scheduled session of the course
  • Hold a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certificate issued within the past year or be a currently authorized Red Cross instructor in a Health and Safety Services program
  • Successfully complete the precourse session

Learning Objectives

  • Be familiar with the American Red Cross Babysitter's Training (r.02) course materials
  • Be able to plan and conduct a Babysitter's Training course
  • Be able to effectively evaluate participants' progress in a basic-level course

Length

Approximately 15 hours (includes FIT)

Instructor

Currently authorized American Red Cross Babysitter's Training instructor trainers.

Certification Requirements

  • Attend and participate in all class sessions
  • Successfully complete one practice-teaching assignment
  • Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent (16 correct answers out of 20 questions)

Certificate Issued and Validity Period

Babysitter's Training Instructor Certificate - Authorization is valid for two calendar years.  All authorizations expire on December 31.
