The "Vial of Life" is a plastic capped vial, holding emergency medical information, stored safely inside your refrigerator. It attaches to the right-hand wall of your refrigerator just underneath the top shelf. The vial is placed in the refrigerator because it is one of the most survivable and identifiable items in a household. The "Vial of Life" program is a free service and is for individuals (especially those living alone) over 60 years of age or with special health problems. Your American Red Cross volunteers, the Police Chiefs' and Fire Chiefs' Associations and some Fire Departments will provide the vial and identifying stickers for citizens requesting the service. Rescue squads, police officers, fire department personnel and medical personnel can then easily access this information in the case of an emergency.
