Two off duty firefighters and an off-duty police officer risked their lives to save a young family caught in a burning van, rescuing the mother, a two-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy named DJ who suffered extensive burns.

This ambitious 18-year-old went above and beyond to save other's lives. Utilizing Facebook and other social networking tools to recruit donors, Nicole Endres coordinated a blood drive collecting enough blood to help 198 people.

Positioning her car to shield a crash victim’s rolled-over vehicle, Sheila Rotta came to the rescue of an injured woman attending to her needs until paramedics arrived at the scene.

When a large fire consumed their plant in Cudahy, company officials worked with emergency personnel, city officials, local businesses and residents to ensure the safety of their employees and the surrounding community. Once the fire was extinguished, the meat packer creatively worked to bring back 90 percent of their workforce.
