Christopher Vaughan is an outreach specialist in the Community Disaster Education Department at the American Red Cross in Southeastern Wisconsin. Fluent in Spanish, his outreach goals are a little different from most working in the department. He is dedicated to building trust between Red Cross and the surrounding Latino communities, and finding ways to reach them in order to increase their involvement now and in the future. Vaughan is a member of Public Allies Milwaukee, a non-profit apprenticeship program through AmeriCorps. The mission of Public Allies is to advance diverse young leaders to strengthen communities, nonprofits and civic engagement. He is a part of a 21-person group, which meets weekly to learn about issues such as diversity and oppression. Vaughan ventures to various different schools and organization to educate multi-cultural youth about various emergencies and community disasters. His single most important message is “be prepared,” since this message is relevant to all audiences and all types of presentations. In his presentations, Vaughan explains the importance of precautionary measures. In the “Burning Issues” presentation, he talks about fire safety. Vaughan addresses issues such as smoke detectors, portable heaters, cooking, electricity precautions, and other general safety habits. “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and “We’re Having a Heat Wave” presentations focus on how to stay safe in extreme weather conditions. Other presentations include action steps for man made and natural disasters as well as how to prepare your business or family for emergencies. His presentations cover multiple safety issues and are relevant to all. If you are interested in booking a presentation with Christopher Vaughan, please call 414-345-8692.
