The Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) van has been on the scene of three large apartment fires that have affected more than 50 families since Tuesday afternoon. Red Cross DAT members responded to the first fire on Tuesday, November 17, around 4 p.m. in West Allis. Volunteers provided food and clothing to two families who were displaced from their homes. Less than 12 hours later, members of the DAT Night Team were at the scene of a large fire on the east side of Milwaukee. DAT members provided food and clothing for residents of six apartment units, as well as lodging for families who were unable to return to their damaged homes. On Wednesday, November 18, volunteers from the Day Team were called to a building near 43rd and Morgan. Volunteers provided clothing and food and replaced medications that residents lost in the fire. Red Cross caseworkers will be providing more assistance for residents in the next few days. The American Red Cross in Southeastern Wisconsin relies on donations of time and money so they can provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies in Dodge, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth and Waukesha counties.
