The last weekend of January proved one of the busiest for our Disaster Action Team (DAT) members, who responded to 11 fires throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

Their weekend started on Thursday with a fire on North 4th Street in Milwaukee. The occupants, a family of seven, could not return to their home. The DAT provided comfort and food for the coming days.

On January 29, three kids and their parents did not have a place to go after their house in Milwaukee was damaged by a fire. DAT members responded, and provided shelter, food and clothing for the displaced family.

Sixty miles away, Red Cross volunteers in Dodge County were assisting a man who needed everything after his home was destroyed by a fire. Local DAT members provided him with food, clothing and shelter.

The next day, the DAT helped three families, including two families displaced after a scary early morning fire on Milwaukee’s west side. Volunteers provided the families with food and clothing, and gave them shelter while they found a new place to stay. The DAT also provided lodging for a resident who couldn’t return home after a carbon monoxide scare.

The last day of the month was traumatic for three families affected by a large fire on 24th Street. The fire jumped from one house to another, leaving 11 people without a home. DAT members provided formula and supplies to a family of seven with a small infant, and assisted four others with food, clothing and medication.

Monday morning brought no relief, as DAT members responded to a fire at a 16-unit apartment building. Volunteers assisted 10 people on scene, and caseworkers are providing for their needs after the fire. DATs from Kenosha and Waukesha also responded to two fires in their area, and provided food and clothing for the affected residents.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, DAT members from southeastern Wisconsin are ready to respond to fires throughout southeastern Wisconsin. To follow their efforts, become a fan on our facebook page and check out our tweets at twitter.com/RedCrossSeWi.
