As of April 1, the American Red Cross will be the sole provider of state-approved First Aid and Choking training for Community Based Residential Facilities (CBRFs). The State of Wisconsin chose the Red Cross for its statewide reach and quality training.

Become an Instructor

Individuals who want to teach the Red Cross First Aid and Choking training for CBRFs must be trained as Red Cross Lay Responder CPR/AED/First Aid Instructors and registered with the state of Wisconsin (also applies to existing instructors). Interested individuals can find more information on our page for CBRFs.

Train Your Employees

Red Cross instructors are available to teach groups of CBRF employees. A minimum of six participants are required for the training. For facilities with a small group of employees, trainings are offered at Red Cross offices in Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha County. To register for these trainings, simply visit our CBRF page.

All employees will need to register with the state of Wisconsin. Students will need to bring a check or money order for $25 payable to “UW Oshkosh” on the day of the training. Participants will not be allowed to attend the training without this state-mandated payment.

CBRFs can also choose to become a Red Cross Authorized Provider, by training a workplace leader as an instructor. The instructor would offer the trainings onsite, at a time that is convenient for the employees and the facility, and would rent or purchase all supplies for the training in advance. Benefits of this arrangement include:

  • Cost-your facility will have long-term savings when you choose to do your own in-house training.
  • Convenience-gain an in-house leader, accessible when you need him or her.
  • Flexibility-conduct classes whenever and wherever you need them.
  • Independence-build training teams to teach health and safety courses to employees.
  • Support-benefit from friendly, individual support from a Red Cross representative you can trust. In addition, Red Cross will track your trainings and students, and send reminders and updates periodically.
  • Quality-Red Cross continually updates the trainings, so your trainings will always contain the latest, up-to-date practices from the medical community.
