![]() American Red Cross Caseworkers are currently assisting 17 families who were displaced by two apartment fires in the past three days. The first fire occurred on Tuesday evening. Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers were called to the building on Fond du Lac Avenue at 5:30 p.m. DAT members gave a mother and infant whose apartment was destroyed a baby blanket and clothes, and provided shelter for them. A few hours later, volunteers were back to the same building when the fire reignited and damaged several more units. All together, volunteers provided shelter for five families Tuesday night and continue to assist families displaced from their homes. The second fire broke out Wednesday night, and affected 12 families. The DAT received the call at 8:04 p.m. and did not leave the apartment building on North Cambridge Avenue until nearly four hours later. One unit was destroyed, while the 11 others were damaged. The Disaster Action Team provided shelter, and Red Cross caseworkers are providing information and referral resources until the residents can return to their apartments. If you were affected by this fire and need assistance, please call a Red Cross caseworker at 414-342-8680.
