![]() Almost fourteen days after severe flooding struck our area, the American Red Cross is closing down our shelter at Glen Hills Middle School. Thanks to the work of the residents and Red Cross caseworkers, every family has a place to stay as they continue to recover from the flooding. More than 150 volunteers took part in the Red Cross disaster relief efforts. In addition to the shelter workers that provided food and shelter at Glen Hills, volunteers drove Emergency Response Vehicles into affected neighborhoods at least twice a day. They passed out more than 6,000 meals and snacks and thousands of clean up kits to weary residents who did not have power or were busy cleaning up their homes after the flooding hit. Caseworkers, Mental Health and Health Services volunteers also went into the community to meet with those affected by the flooding. These teams made sure that everyone’s basic needs were met, and that residents were coping with the trauma and health concerns that arise with a disaster.
