Steve Kilian, Kilian Management Services Reminiscent of early McDonald’s chairman Ray Kroc, entrepreneur Steve Kilian knows that to be part of a community you have to give back to your neighbors. “It’s always been one of our principles since we first got started in business---to share our success with the community. It’s very satisfying,” says Steve. “You cannot be isolated and still be a part of your community.” Steve and wife of 32 years, Debbie, opened and ran a convenience store in Illinois until opening Kilian Management in West Bend in 1990. Now owner of 35 McDonald’s stores, Steve, Debbie and son, Steve Jr., have been recognized as leaders within the McDonald’s corporation and throughout the community. Recently named the recipient of McDonald’s Golden Arch Award, Steve has also received the Ronald Award twice for his outstanding contributions to the development of McDonald’s image in the areas of advertising, promotion and public relations in the communities surrounding his restaurants. Steve brings McDonald’s into the community by holding an annual fundraiser for United Ways in Washington and Manitowoc counties. He is also a board member of the West Bend Chamber of Commerce, and served as a member of the welcoming committee for the Harley Davidson 100th Anniversary Celebration at Washington County Fair Park. His wife also serves on the Washington County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors. His son, Chris, is taking a hands-on approach to helping others as a member of the medical community. Steve Jr. plays an integral part in the community by serving on the board of St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend. Their business sponsors charitable events throughout Wisconsin every year. His customers number in the thousands, as do the recipients of his charitable contributions. To Steve, helping neighbors is just part of being involved in the community. “I’m truly blessed to have a business in Washington County. It’s a great place to own a business and to raise your family,” he says.
